Man’s best friend is undoubtedly the dog; even if you were the one who didn’t want a pet in the first place the new addition has that way of getting under your skin and winning your heart. It does help that when you first purchase the new addition to the family it is a cute, small warm puppy and with all the best intentions you start the training. Sleeping in a crate so that the puppy has a safe territory to retire to when the going gets tough and of course you will never let it sleep on the furniture or your bed. Hmm, and how long did that last? Read the rest of this entry
The Star Wars craze is revving up how about a Dog Costume. This is an interesting looking Halloween Dog Costume. I think it looks really good in the picture with the Greyhound. The costume looks like an Imperial Walker from Star Wars. When you are taking the kids out Trick or Treating or having your own Halloween Party don’t forget to dress up your dog also in a Dog Costume. How about having your own Star Wars collection as you go Trick or Treating with your kids. Let’s see Dad could be “Darth Vader”, Mom could be “Queen Amidala”, the kids could be little “Storm Troopers” or “Young Jedi.”
For Safety I would probably add some reflective tape to the costume or a flashing dog collar. We want to be safe with our pets and children so a little thing like some reflective tape would add some visibility to the Dog Costume. Also don’t forget to bring a pocket full of treats for your dog, it will make the whole dressing up in a Dog Costume and Trick or Treating a more enjoyable experience for them. If the weather is warm in your area a collapsible bowl or if you have taught your dog how to drink out of a bottle some water would be a good idea also. Adding the Dog Costume to your dog may keep in some extra body heat and we don’t want them to over heat.

The Nylon cover for the Pinch Collar is nice especially if you have a short haired dog. So many people think that Pinch Collars are cruel and harsh on the dog. When a Pinch Collar is used properly it is a very effective way to communicate with your dog, you aren’t going to choke them or damage their tracheae like you can with a choke collar.
Are you planning on getting a puppy, this is an exciting time for you and your family. If you are a first time puppy owner you have we are sure you have a lot of questions like what types of things do I need before my puppy comes home, what type of food should we feed. I would like to start this series with looking at your home. Yes that is right let’s take a look at your home is it puppy ready?
What do we need to do to make our home puppy friendly?
First you need to understand that puppies explore the world with their mouth, if they find something of interest it 99% of the time it goes directly into the mouth. So start at floor level, do you leave shoes or boots where you kick them off or are they in a closet? Puppies love human foot wear, we believe it is because it has a strong odor of their new human parent. It may take a few days to a few weeks for the puppy to see you as his human parent, so the foot ware maybe safe for that period of time.
Remember electrical cords, puppies do not know the danger of chewing on electrical cords. Look around you home and secure or block access to electrical cords. Is the garbage or trash receptacle secure so your puppy can’t get into it and ingest something that could be bad for them? Think about getting a trash can with a lid that you can secure or have a smaller receptacle in a closet or cabinet. Take a look around your house for possible poison dangers, things like cleaning products, laundry products, medications including over the counter products. Just a word of caution, many families set up a crate in the laundry room for their puppy. We have seen where somehow a bottle of bleach or other caustic product tipped off a shelf and the dog or puppy suffered chemical burns. Dogs and puppies can some time get a bit excited in the crate so please do not use your crate top as a shelf storage for any harmful chemicals.
Do you have valuable or collectible things at a low height where you puppy can get to them? Do you leave your cell phone and or keys just lying on a coffee table? More than one puppy or dog has chewed on a cell phone or car keys. Don’t forget about things like newspapers, books and human snacks we have a tendency to leave laying around.
Do you have any expensive rugs that you really cherish, you might want to roll those up and store them in a safe area until your puppy is house broken. It never fails that your puppy will find this a nice place to potty.
